Veterans Community Project (VCP) Overview  

Founded in 2016 in Kansas City, MO, VCP is dedicated to supporting every man and woman who took the oath to defend our nation. The greatest barrier to ending Veteran homelessness is the revolving door of unstable housing and the frustrating maze Veterans must navigate in order to get basic support. We believe that to be an effective program, the first step is to connect Veterans and the community. VCP created an innovative homeless housing program and outreach assistance that provides inclusive services to aid Veterans in re-claiming control over their lives.

Position Summary 

The Outreach Team Lead provides leadership, coordination, and oversight of day-to-day outreach operations. This includes guiding a high-performing team, strengthening collaboration with community partners, and ensuring Veterans have seamless access to services and resources.  The Outreach Team Lead oversees key programs such as Emergency Assistance, Street Outreach and initial housing intakes, while also supporting VCP's mission through outcome tracking and reporting.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

Leadership and Supervision '

  • Supervise, mentor, and support outreach team members and volunteers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture. 
  • Conduct regular team meetings and one-on-one check-ins with direct reports.
  • Co-facilitate case conferencing and training sessions to ensure quality and consistency in service delivery. 
  • Engage community subject matter experts to provide training and strengthen team knowledge. 
  • Represent VCP at community meetings, events, and forums to foster partnerships and advocate for Veterans. 

Outreach Program Oversight 

  • Foster a welcoming, supportive environment for all Veterans engaging with VCP. 
  • Provide light case management support when needed, particularly during high-demand periods. '
  • Collaborate with Outreach Case Managers (OCMs) and external service providers to coordinate Veteran care. 
  • Oversee VCP’s Emergency Assistance program, ensuring alignment with policies, procedures, and budgets. 
  • Establish and maintain clear standards for client orientation to VCP programs. 
  • Partner with the Lead Residential Case Manager (LRCM) to refine intake practices and recommend prospective residents for the VCP Village. 
  • Lead and enhance VCP’s Street Outreach program in collaboration with the Director of Veteran Support Services. 
  • Stay informed on community resources to expand on-site services and improve access to supports. 

Reporting 

  • Ensure accurate, timely documentation and reporting that meets VCP’s standards and funder requirements. 
  • Report critical incidents promptly to the Director of Veteran Support Services.
  • Analyze program outcomes and collaborate with OCMs to identify best practices and areas for improvement. 

Teamwork and Collaboration 

  • Collaborate across all VCP programs and departments to maintain a team-centered approach. 
  • Build strong working relationships with community providers to improve access to local resources. 
  • Support colleagues by filling in when needed and assisting with Veteran Services presentations. 

Relationships 

  • Communicate clearly and effectively with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate services. 
  • Serve as a visible and credible advocate for VCP in the community, advancing engagement and trust.

  • Uphold VCP’s policies, procedures, and code of conduct. 
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of client information. 

Operational Excellence 

  • Develop and implement outreach strategies that expand reach and strengthen community collaboration. 
  • Monitor program effectiveness and recommend improvements to the Director of Veteran Support Services. 
  • Take a lead role in outreach-related grants, funding supports, and program development initiatives.

Preferred Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. 
  • Minimum two years’ related experience, preferably in a nonprofit or social service setting. 
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate, mentor, and inspire a team. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills grounded in empathy and compassion. 
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and skilled at balancing multiple priorities. 
  • Resilient, proactive, and able to navigate challenging situations with professionalism. 
  • Familiarity with Kansas City’s social services landscape is encouraged. 

Other Requirements: 

  • Willingness to participate in street-based outreach activities. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and CRM/data management systems. 
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds. 
  • Strong data entry and office equipment skills with attention to detail
